Take me out to the ball game...

Sunday, May 25, 2014

....take me out with the crowd! I have to be honest my favorite memories of baseball games are pigging out on snacks. We hardly every paid attention as kids to the game unless everyone started looking up, signifying a fly ball. Well... not a lot has changed, except this time in addition to the pigging out and the reacting (mostly late) to fly balls, I got to throw the first pitch! I had soooo much fun throwing the first pitch at the Fresno State Baseball game on May 13! The pressure of making sure that ball crossed home plate reminded me of my college basketball playing days. It was also fun to be back "playing sports" at my alma matter.

Some of the day's highlights for me included,

~ warming up with one of the players
~ taking a picture with Head Coach Mike Batesole
~ teaching the Media Intern how to do a "pageant pose"
~ being featured on the Fresno State Athletics Facebook and Instagram page
~ throwing the ball across home plate (STRIKE!)
~ eating trail mix, candy, nachos, almonds, and candy bars :)
~ sharing the Mrs. California Crown with the community
~ taking my son to his very first baseball game, and having fun with my family "at the ol' ball game!!!!"

A Royal Welcome!

The night I was crowned Mrs. California, I got a phone call from a dear friend, offering to throw me a party! "A party for what?" I asked forgetting that I just won the most amazing title! "In your honor... to welcome you home.... people will want to celebrate with you!" And I said, "Thank you so much for offering... let me think about it!" ... my inner thoughts whispered, "After all, I'm not big a deal!!

Well I'm still not a big deal, but she was right people definitely wanted to celebrate with me. And celebrate they did! I do want to take a moment to acknowledge some members of my local No limit Limousines, Sweetly Baked Bakery, A Bling Above Custom Rhinestone and Bling Shop, Awesome Blossom Floral, Walker-Lewis Rents, and Three Twenty Three Jewelry Company. One of the many things I love about Fresno is how this community supports their heroes, I know this from my experience as a Fresno State Basketball player, a Fresno Unified Teacher and now as Mrs. California. Thank you Fresno!

Barbara Bush once encouraged us to "Cherish your human connections" (and that is about as Political as I will ever get on this blog hehe) and I couldn't agree more! I will always be grateful to the friends and family who battled the surprise rain and wind storm to celebrate our newest accomplishment. And I purposefully say "our" because it truly takes a village, and each one of my friends and family played a role in making me who I am today. Together we are all Mrs. California. I love the photos captured of the intimate event because it truly reflects the joy, laughter and pride we felt as we prepare for Mrs. United States! By the way... Friends and family that love you!... now THAT is a BIG DEAL! ;)

long as the memory of certain beloved friends lives in my heart, I shall say that life is good.
